The Tertiary Decree requires tenants and owners of service-sector buildings, or parts of buildings, with a floor area of 1,000m² or more to monitor and reduce their energy consumption by: 40% by 2030, 50% by 2040 and 60% by 2050.
The BACS Decree (Building Automation & Control Systems) mandates that all non-residential commercial buildings, both new and existing, be equipped with an automation and control system. Compliance deadlines are set for January 1, 2025, for buildings with a heating or cooling capacity exceeding 290 kW, and January 1, 2027, for those exceeding 70 kW.
The BACS Decree provides a pathway for buildings to achieve the targets set by the Tertiary Decree.
Amid climate change and the evolving challenges of our societies, the role of the construction industry is more crucial than ever before.
In fact, the construction industry is the largest energy consumer in France, responsible for nearly 45% of final energy consumption and 17% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As a result, ever stricter regulations are being introduced to reduce consumption.
