Benfeld, Paris, and Montreal, August 28, 2024 – The commercial building sector, which accounts for 15% of France’s energy consumption, must expedite its low-carbon transition to meet the targets set by the National Low Carbon Strategy (SNCB), which calls for a 49% reduction in emissions by 2030. As part of the Tertiary Sector Decree, a regulation aimed at achieving the SNCB’s objectives, over 1.2 million buildings are now required to make significant energy savings—reducing consumption by 40% by 2030, 50% by 2040, and 60% by 2050—while also lowering their greenhouse gas emissions. One of the key levers for decarbonizing commercial real estate is the “smart” control of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, which is essential for reducing both energy consumption and carbon emissions.

To further enhance energy consumption forecasting and optimize real-time building equipment operating setpoints, environmental performance leader E’nergys announced at Viva Technology 2024 a commercial agreement with Canadian innovator BrainBox AI, a pioneer in autonomous and generative AI technologies for commercial buildings, bringing a groundbreaking AI solution to the French market. Under this agreement, E’nergys will integrate BrainBox AI’s cloud computing and deep learning solution into its turnkey BMS offering. This collaboration is part of both companies’ commitment to democratizing the use of AI in “intelligent” building control, ushering in a new era of predictive capabilities.

Louis Steyert, Managing Director of the E’nergys Solutions Division, explains: “Our ambition is to deliver even greater value through our turnkey solutions by integrating the latest innovations to address the energy efficiency and decarbonization challenges faced by French service sector companies, especially in the context of rising energy costs and increasing regulatory requirements. With BrainBox AI, we will be able to integrate their AI solution designed specifically for the realities of commercial buildings into our BMS offering, a solution that is already the benchmark in the North American market.”

This commercial agreement with BrainBox AI is a major step forward for E’nergys, which now wants to take full advantage of the potential of AI to bring BMS into the predictive era. Through its partnership with BrainBox AI, E’nergys’ BMS will implement advanced algorithms to optimize the energy consumption of the HVAC systems it manages. By harnessing the power of AI, it will take into account data from various external parameters such as weather and occupancy rates. The result is an optimized, fully autonomous building that operates 24/7 with no human intervention, ensuring maximum comfort at all times. BrainBox AI, integrated with E’nergys’ BMS offering, will enable up to a 25% reduction in energy consumption, a 40% decrease in carbon footprint, and continuous optimization of BMS settings.

“BrainBox AI is focused on expanding its presence in France as part of its ongoing effort to deploy its climate technology across the European market,” said Frank Sullivan, Head of Business Development at BrainBox AI. “E’nergys’ recognized expertise in BMS for commercial buildings seamlessly complements our strategic objectives for the region. BrainBox AI is dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions to property owners and major retailers in this dynamic market, helping them reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, while collectively advancing the goals of the Tertiary Decree. ”

Louis Steyert concludes: “In France today, only 10% of commercial buildings are equipped with BMS. With the enforcement of the BACS Decree, over 80% of commercial buildings will need to be equipped with a Building Management System (BMS) by 2025 to monitor and optimize heating, ventilation, and other systems, ensuring they function as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible. The market potential is therefore extremely significant. With BrainBox AI, we provide commercial sector stakeholders with a BMS in which the HVAC system operates autonomously, advancing toward smarter, more proactive building management.
