SecAnim Sud Est, a subsidiary of the SARIA group, specializes in the collection, rendering, and recovery of meat waste from both professionals and private individuals. The company transforms this waste into valuable resources, including flour used as fuel, animal fat for biodiesel production, and processed animal protein for pet food. This meat waste recovery plant, which processes 182,000 tons of “material” on average per year, uses “energy-intensive” processes to dehydrate, sort and process the raw material. ISO 50 001 certified since 2014, the facility pays particular attention to optimizing its energy consumption. Following a recent process change and the onboarding of a new team member, SecAnim Sud Est partnered with E’nergys, the experts in industrial energy performance, in 2021 to receive customized support. This collaboration included conducting a new energy audit, revamping the energy consumption monitoring dashboard, and delivering PROREFEI courses (Training for Industrial Energy Managers) to the company’s newly appointed key energy consultant.

Key consultant Jonathan HENDERYCKX, QSEE Manager at SecAnim Sud Est, tells us: “With Impulse, we received personalized, end-to-end support, from the right energy audit to ‘on-the-job’ training. Now, in addition to the “best practices” deployed, we have hands-on ways of reducing our site’s energy consumption.”

SecAnim Sud Est delivers personalized support to help you achieve a new energy-saving dynamic that’s compliant with regulatory requirements!

SecAnim Sud Est, a subsidiary of the SARIA Group, a European leader in the collection and conversion of organic materials into sustainable products, collects, processes and gives a second “life” to meat waste. ISO 50001 certified since 2014, the plant has continuously enhanced its organization and processes in recent years to comply with evolving regulations and minimize its environmental impact. This is in line with SARIA’s ambition to be a key player in the circular economy. To achieve this goal, SecAnim Sud Est is working towards win-win dynamics in the water and energy consumption model linked to its production processes. With the appointment of a new QSEE Manager in 2018, SecAnim Sud Est aimed to designate him as the company’s Energy Referent through PROREFEI training. To support him in this role, the company provided essential tools, including a comprehensive energy audit and an updated energy consumption dashboard aligned with certification requirements.

Building on a successful initial collaboration in wastewater reuse, SecAnim Sud Est renewed its partnership with E’nergys in 2021-an expert in energy and water optimization for the agri-food industry. Jonathan HENDERYCKX adds, “In our previous collaboration with E’nergys, SecAnim Sud Est was impressed by the excellence of their methodology, particularly the practical, results-oriented improvement plans, and the agility of their support.” So it was only natural to call on E’nergys for personalized support in a new drive to optimize energy consumption.”

The collaboration between SecAnim Sud Est and Impulse was built around three key phases: an energy audit conducted in winter 2021, a complete overhaul of the energy consumption monitoring dashboard, and comprehensive PROREFEI training including a MOOC, tutoring, and hands-on individual coaching, fully funded through the ESC scheme. Jonathan HENDERYCKX became the Key Energy Consultant in the first quarter of 2022.

This meant immediate benefits for SecAnim Sud Est’s energy efficiency!

In addition to being trained in best practices and equipped with new knowledge, the new Key Energy Consultant now has a precise, concrete energy consumption monitoring chart, so that he can track IPEs – Energy Performance Indicators – on a month-by-month basis. He can henceforth better analyze his consumption of electricity, gas, steam, heat… and can spread a “new energy culture” throughout the plant. What’s more, the company benefits from a prioritized action plan to reduce energy consumption in a number of areas: compressed air, steam, heat recovery, refrigeration, processes and even management.

Jonathan HENDERYCKX, QSEE Manager at SecAnim Sud Est concludes:Impulse’s personalized support, combined with their technical expertise and the right resources, empowered me to quickly and confidently take charge of energy optimization at our plant. I’ve gained in skills and autonomy to determine the best avenues for improvement, while meeting our regulatory obligations. I especially appreciated my collaboration with Impulse, which was resolutely constructive, efficient and pleasant.
