KARINE MAHÉ
– CEO OF APROBOIS
A leading player in the timber industry in the Grand-Ouest part of France, Aprobois employs 100 people and generates €15 million in annual revenue, 90% of which comes from local markets. The company operates across a diverse range of activities, including sawmilling, construction timber, pallet and crate manufacturing, and wood energy production. Rooted in the local community, committed to social responsibility, and driven by sustainability, Aprobois seeks to balance economic, social, and environmental performance by adopting practices that respect both people and the planet. In response to rising demand for wood pellets, Aprobois plans to increase its annual pellet production by 10,000 tons by 2025 while enhancing the energy efficiency of its most energy-intensive processes at its Rostrenen production unit, near its Carhaix sawmill.
Driven by its “short circuit” approach and a commitment to maximizing raw material utilization, Aprobois enlisted our services to achieve several key objectives:
E’nergys recommends that Aprobois install a new, higher-capacity dryer that makes the most of waste heat. This waste heat recovery project, spanning from feasibility study to completion by summer 2025, represents a total investment of €2 to €3 million. Aprobois plans to apply for financial support through ADEME’s Fonds de Chaleur to help fund the initiative. Guided by Aprobois, E’nergys conducted an assessment of existing technologies and demonstrated the viability of a pyrogasification process combined with an electricity production unit. This solution proved to be both cost-effective and functionally suited to meet the energy self-consumption needs of the Rostrenen site.
