Companies with more than 250 employees, or with annual revenue in excess of €50 million and total assets in excess of €43 million, are required to carry out an energy audit and update it every 4 years. If the company is ISO 50001 certified, it is exempt from carrying out an energy audit.
The revised European Directive on energy efficiency is currently being transposed to French law. The regulatory audit eligibility criteria have been changed as follows:
ADEME and ATEE are also spearheading a new “Energy Savings Certificate (ESC)” program aimed at the industrial sector, known as the “PACTE Industrie” (“Industry Transition Support and Skills Program”). Manufacturers have three years to use this program, which enables them to commit to an energy transition strategy. It offers training programs (PROREFEI, Inveest, PRO-SMEn, ACT) and support services, including studies, consulting, and coaching. The aim is to encourage action towards energy efficiency and decarbonization investments.
Additionally, industries with tertiary buildings exceeding 1,000 m² are also subject to the Tertiary Decree and the BACS Decree.
As the decarbonization of energy becomes increasingly pressing for the years ahead, renewable gases offer a promising pathway to clean, reliable, and sustainable energy. However, between essential uses and competition from more cost-effective energy sources, renewable gases still need to stake their claim on the evolving energy mix.
